Aris Knikker
Haarlem 1887-1962 The Hague
Milking time, oil on canvas 30.8 x 43.5 cm, signed l.r.
Aris Knikker received his education at the academy in The Hague and lived in the royal city for almost his entire life. He started his artistic career as a pottery painter near Rozenburg, after which he switched to free painting. His preference was to paint atmospheric water landscapes, farmyards and vistas in the style of the Hague School, as his brother and cousin would later do. His work showed an atmosphere reminiscent of the work of J.H. Weissenbruch. Much of Aris Knikker’s earlier work was therefore forged into work by this Hague scholar.
