Utrecht-born painter Jos Rovers was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts in Antwerp. He painted a variety of themes, from cityscapes and landscapes to nudes and still lifes. His work was soon noticed and Rovers won several prizes, including the St. Lucas Prize in 1939. He was also a member of the Amsterdam artists’ associations Arti et Amicitiae and St. Lucas.
