Jan de Jong lived and worked his entire life in Rotterdam. He was born there in 1864, attended the academy in this port city and was subsequently taught by the landscape painter J.H. Wijtkamp. His oeuvre includes landscapes and crowded Rotterdam cityscapes in which we can find a lot of the city Rotterdam from the turn of the century.
