Born in 1916, this versatile painter studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and attended evening classes at the Vrije Studio in The Hague. Ettinger’s subjects are very diverse: he painted interiors, portraits, harbour views, cityscapes, still lifes and religious scenes. The painter was also called ‘Rembrandt on the bicycle’, because of his habit of using a bicycle as an easel.
